Okay girls, lets get down and personal.
This is a new style of topic for me to write about, and some of you might be thinking it’s a little TMI, but come on, half the population has to go through the discomfort of periods, so we should be more open about them and speak freely! When you have your period you’re already in so much pain, there are cramps, back pain, and just a generalised feeling of shittiness, not to mention your hormones are out of whack, meaning your moods are a mystery; even to you. With all this going on should we really have to suffer more? Let’s be real, tampons and pads are freaking uncomfortable, usually making a bad situation worse.
I have found something I want to share with you all because it really changed my periods for the better. We girls need to stick together, if there is something out there that can make your period more comfortable, we should be letting everyone know about it!
For me, that item was Modibodi Performance Underwear!
Modibodi Underwear is designed for a whole range of issues, such as; sweat, odour, discharge, light bladder spots or leaks, menstrual onset or spotting, menstrual flow or breast milk leakage.
One of the best parts of these Modibodi’s is that they are 100% reusable and easy to care for. When they are ready to be cleaned all they require is a quick rinse and then pop them into a cold load in the washing machine, they’ll come out as good as new!
All Modibodi Underwear is made from superior fabrics for ultimate comfort.
The fabrics chosen for various Modibodi designs are bamboo, merino perform and microfiber. Bamboo is a very soft fabric which is more absorbent than cotton. It naturally draws moisture away from the skin and does not hold odours. It is also eco-friendly, it can be grown without causing environmental degradation and it does not require pesticides and fertilizers. The merino perform is also eco-friendly, plus biodegradable and renewable. It is easy to care for, stain resistant and it naturally reduces odours. Lastly microfiber is breathable, retains its colour and shape, it is quick drying and non-pilling.
Modibodi’s have been size tested on real women to create the best fit possible, and they are incredibly true to size.
There are two styles of Modibodi modifier technology, the Modifier Technology and the Modifier Air Technology.
The Modifier Technology is designed for absorbent protection, it wicks moisture, eliminates odours, is stain and leak resistant and is super absorbent allowing for up to 10mL per leak (approximately the equivalent of 2 tampons).
The Modifier Air Technology is a lightweight and breathable option which is designed to wick moisture and absorb odour, but is not absorbent.
If you would like to see more on the Modibodi Modifier Technology then I suggest you watch this video.
Active Brief – Absorbent | $33.50-$35.50
I bought one pair of absorbent Active Briefs, these briefs are designed for use while doing sports or while being active. They are made from merino perform and contain the Modifier Technology for absorbency. I find this pair of underwear extremely comfortable, they are well designed, giving you a full coverage on your bottom without moving out of place. The only down side to this pair that I have seen so far is a small amount of pilling on the back which I have not yet noticed on the bamboo designs. The pilling has not affected function or comfort though.
Classic Bikini – Absorbent | $26.50
This absorbent classic bikini from Modibodi is made from silky soft bamboo fibres, meaning that they are incredibly comfortable and soft against your body. This bikini style sits on your hips and comes up high around your leg. This style is softer and more breathable than the active briefs, and as such they tend to move around on your bottom slightly more than the active brief, although they still stay relatively well in place. As the active brief this pair is also absorbent utilising the Modifier Technology from Modibodi.
Sensual Hi-Waist Bikini – Absorbent | $29.50-$33.50
Lastly I ordered two pairs of the absorbent Sensual Hi-Waist Bikini. These also utilise the Modibodi Modifier Technology for absorbency, and bamboo fibres for superior softness and comfort. Although these are made out of bamboo fibres too, when compared to the classic bikini I thought they felt sturdier, they gave a full bottom coverage and didn’t tend to move as much. The lace adds a little something flirty to their design, and it steers away from the typical “granny panty” period undies. They are not quite high waisted, and the lace ends just in the middle, between the hip and waist. This pair gives the most absorbency of the three pairs I tried and is ultimately my favourite style.
There you have it, underwear designed for superior comfort and absorbent protection during your period. I have had these for a few months now, I wanted to really give them a workout before reviewing them, and I have to say that they are revolutionary. So comfortable and so practical. They basically pay for themselves once you stop buying disposable hygiene products, and you will want to wear them every day, especially if you suffer from LBL, they will just be able to provide you with a new type of peace of mind.
What type of sanitary product is your go to each month?
