There is no denying it, 2016 has been a difficult year, not only for me on a personal level but also on a global scale. It seems there is a general worldwide consensus that 2016 wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, however, no matter what happened in 2016 it’s important to remember that 2017 is a clean, new slate, ready to be imprinted with whatever you decide. How you will reflect on 2017 next year depends completely on what you make of the year, so make it your best one yet.
I’m not usually one to make New Year’s resolutions, I tried a long time ago but found I wasn’t very good at it so I became discouraged and vowed never to do it again. My trouble was that I was setting myself up for failure with unrealistic goals, my goals would be too specific or potentially to vague, they were not achievable with my current means, and therefore they failed. This year I have put some time and thought into my 2017 resolutions and I come up with a set that I believe I am happy with, and I would like to work towards throughout 2017.
Work on becoming fitter and healthier: While I’m not going to set myself a goal weight, a diet or a strict amount of times a week to work out, I would like to work on becoming a better person, physically. I have many reasons to exercise and establish healthy eating habits, yet I still have not done so and I think it’s about time to change, I want to be the best, fittest and healthiest version of myself yet in 2017.
Make a substantial effort towards improving my mental health: Although this has been a priority of mine for quite some time now I would really like to make 2017 the year I start to see results. This year I want to make and attend regular appointments with my GP and psychologist and stay on top of any homework I am assigned.
Improve the puppies quality of life: My pups already have a pretty sweet life, they are loved and well looked after but I would really like to go a bit further this year for them and make sure they are 100% getting everything they need or could want. I want to take them to the beach and park more often as well as walking them on a regular basis. I would also like to work on their training a little more intensely in 2017, as I have been growing lazy recently.
Graduate my double major: I want to graduate from university in 2017. This may seem strange in here as most people graduate when they are due to graduate, however I have managed to put off my graduation twice now, changing around my course etc., now that I am due to graduate at the end of 2017 I really want to enure that happens!
Visit somewhere new: I’ve had this dream for a while now that I would like to travel to somewhere new every year. It could be a new continent, a new country or simply a town/city which I haven’t been to before.
Keep up with extra curricular activities: I’m someone who needs to be busy to be my happiest, I get restless if left house bound for too long, although this year I will be working and attending uni I want to keep up with fun extra curricular activities so that I don’t feel burnt out from just studying and working. Ultimately I would like to attend something at least once a week, but I won’t strictly hold myself to that, as things can’t always happen as planned and there’s no point beating myself up about it if it can’t happen.
Read more books: I rekindled my love for reading in 2016, but then I got busy and it slowed down. In 2017 I would like to complete 10 novels, that’s less than one a month and I don’t think it is an exorbitant goal.
Plan more dates: Even though Kody and I live together and see one another 24/7 dates are really nice. Last year we said that we would go on a date at least once a fortnight, however that plan soon got forgotten and abandoned. Therefore in 2017 I would like to ensure that Kody and I get our date every fortnight.
How was your New Years?
Do you have any 2017 resolutions?
How did you go at keeping your 2016 goals?
