I hope by writing this Thrifted Finds series it will encourage others to do a bit of thrift shopping. There are so many benefits to thrifting, it is cheaper, you are supporting charity, again your money goes to charity rather than to brands who may be potentially exploiting foreign workers, and of course, it is the green option. Too much is ending up in landfill! We really need to start thinking about the environment before tossing items away, or buying brand new products, recycling clothes means that you are keeping them out of landfill!
For my first thrifting trip of December I walked into my favourite, and most local op shop, the Merriwa Thrift Store, while I was there I managed to grab 5 tops and 1 skirt off the 50c rack and I also picked up a cute pair of leather sandals for $2 as they were 50% off that day! Brands included Forever New, Queens Park, Rivers, Kmart’s Now as well as a few others.
So far my favourite item from this trip would probably be the Queens Park blue tee on the top left hand side. It is just really different and comfortable, I have already worn it heaps!
During a quick stop into the Joondalup Good Sammies I found these cute, unbranded, leather booties for only $2. They have already gotten me a host of compliments so it was money well spent as far as I am concerned.
Heathridge Vinnies had a $5 woman’s clothing sale this December, I walked out with this gorgeous navy maxi dress from Dotti as well as another maxi dress from Pink Stitch and a pair of new tights from Cotton On Body. I also picked out this beautiful light weight, tiger print scarf for $1!The tights have definitely paid off their $5 price tag as I have worn them continuously, the dresses haven’t been worn yet, but that is due to opportunity and not because I don’t want to wear them!
Again at the Merriwa Thrift Store I went in to get these 7 books, I haven’t read any yet (does watching their movies count?), but at 10c each I thought I might as well pick them up and give myself the opportunity to read them! If you have read any of these and they are either good, or not so good then please let me know, I’m not sure where to start!
I went back to the Merriwa Thrift Store and they still had their 10c book sale on, I picked up two more goodies, and I think I remember hearing good things about The Jane Austen Book Club? Has anyone read it? I also grabbed a red tee from Dotti for 50c which has become a staple in my wardrobe as well as a US Air Force Jacket for 50c which I thought might come in handy for a costume down the line. Lastly I spent a collective $3 on these two beautiful scarves, it’s just a shame it is summer at the moment and it is too hot to wear them!
The last three pictures in this post are all from the same trip to the Merriwa Thrift Store. Before they closed for the Christmas break they decided to move their current stock and come back to a fresh start in 2017, meaning that they had a sale in store, twenty items for $5! I basically could have grabbed an entire new wardrobe, all these items were only 25c a piece!
I grabbed 5 tee’s, a 3/4 sleeved tee, a loose 3/4 sleeve red top, a workout tank and a cardigan, all were great pieces! I have worn several of the tee’s multiple times and the red 3/4 length top a few times too, in fact I even wore that top when Kody and I went out to dinner on our 7th anniversary!
I also bought five new pairs of jeans, two pairs of tights as well as two more pair of pants. Brands included Country Road, Portmans, Lee Cooper, Elle, Cotton On, Paper Scissors and Jayjays! One pair by Lee Cooper were brand new and still had the tags attached, I don’t think you can beat 25c for that! The Cotton On boyfriend jeans and the Lee Cooper skinnys have become the most used jeans in my wardrobe, I’m basically alternating between the two pairs at the moment, they are so comfortable and such a good fit!
Lastly I grabbed four dresses and two necklaces for 25c each! The first dress is a vintage midi/maxi from George, the second, a business dress from Esprit, I also got a stripped mini dress and a gorgeous blue and white midi dress from Piper which looks basically brand new! I wore the blue and white dress to Boxing Day dinner and I have to admit that I am absolutely in love with it!
