{DIY} Make Your Own Pet Bandanas

I recently made my fur babies some new accessories. I think they are adorable, so I wanted to share the tutorial so you can follow along at home and make some for your own puppies (or cats, you’d just need to scale down the bandanas). Best of all you can totally mix and match to make the perfect pattern and colour combinations for your pet!

I chose a deep green plain side, with a matching green forest print on the opposing side for Theo. Whilst Charlie’s was a muted plain blue, with a blue and white chevron print. I think they look quite handsome in their new bandanas!

Materials:
Two patterns of matching fabrics.
Scissors.
Sewing machine.
Matching thread.
Pins.

Step 1. Select two different fabrics with matching tones to use as reverse sides of your bandanas. Cut your fabric into 7″ X 7″ squares (1 square of each fabric will make two bandanas).

Step 2. Slice your fabric squares directly in half, from corner to corner, creating two triangles from each square of fabric.

Step 3. Place two triangles on top of each other, front of fabrics facing in, touching. Cut 1″ off each of the corners along the longest (top) length.

Step 4. While the fronts of the fabrics are together, sew along the longest (top) edge of the fabrics. Make sure you reverse over each of the ends with your sewing machine to strengthen the edge.

Step 5. Curl 1cm of the corners you cut over, and run along the edge with the sewing machine.

Step 6. While inside out, with the front of each pattern facing, pin over each edge that has not yet been sewn.

Step 7. Sew down one half to the point of your bandana, lift your sewing machine foot, place it back down to travel up the other edge. Cut the very tip off the excess fabric on the tip (below the sewn line).

Step 8. Turn the bandana the right way out, pulling the inside through the holes left open for the collar. Sew a straight line along the bottom of the collar section.

Step 9. Iron flat your completed bandanas! To attach them, thread your pets collar through the section along the top! Lastly, take your pups out in public to show them off and receive all the praise!

If you do go ahead and make some bandanas for your own puppies (or cat!) please tag me, or @charles_n_theodore on Insta, I’d love to see your work!

Oh these are so cute! I love the idea of making them so that you can thread the collar through to keep them on and in place – the bandanas we’ve had for our pup never stay on long as I don’t want to tie the ends too tight and hurt him, this is a much nicer idea! 🙂

Hope you are having a lovely week so far 🙂
