{Beauty} September ’16 Empties

img_0999

Honestly, how is September over already? I know I’m surprised each month that time is just flying by, but I feel that as I get older, time gets faster… When I was little I remember thinking that the year took so long to come around again, and now everything is just flying past me. Surly I’m not the only one to feel like this? Anyone else wondering where 2016 has gone?

Anyway, back on track… this post is all about my September empties. I felt like I had nothing in my empties bucket this month, but in the last week of September I swear I just finished a whole pile of full sized products, meaning that this month’s total came to 22, a decent amount on its own, but even more impressive was that 14 of these were full sized! They weren’t all just tiny samples that I had used up in 1 or 2 uses!

Skincare Products:

Passion Peel Off Mask | $3.99
This was a very interesting and fun mask, however I’m not sure if it actually had any effect on my skin. It smelt amazing, scented with passion flowers and pomegranate pulp, and it was fun to peel off my skin, if you’re not good with gory medical things though you may want to give this mask a pass. It was coloured a transparent pink/nude and peeling it off definitely resembled peeling off layers of skin! Yuk.

Repurchase decision: No thanks.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel | $24.99 (50g)
You must know I adore this by now. Just in case you weren’t aware, I love this stuff, and now so does Kody! Kody has an oily skin type so when he asked me for a daily moisturiser this was the no brainer option. He wears it daily, and when he ran out he asked me for more, so I picked up two more full sized tubs at Priceline while it was half price!

Repurchase decision: I already have two more tubs.

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes | $6.99 (25 wipes)
I have tried these before, and I spoke about them in my April empties post. At the time I had decided they worked well to cleanse your skin however they were also abrasive. I still hold the same opinion, and since trying more brands I have decided they are much rougher than the norm. Another annoying point to raise with this product is the packaging. It has a resealable sticky closure, however after only a few uses it doesn’t re-stick down properly, meaning that your wipes start to dry out before you get a chance to use them.

Repurchase decision: No, I’m not a fan of this brand of wipes.

Essentials Cosmetics Pads | $2.00 (160 pieces)
I buy these from Target, they are cheap and work well. I always buy cosmetic pads that are bound around the edges, the ones that peel apart annoy me as they always tend to fall apart on my face.

Repurchase decision: Yep, I’m already onto another packet.

Medik8 Hydr8 Day 360 Total Anti-Aging Moisturiser | $119.00 (50mL)
I was given this little sample of Medik8 moisturiser, it was nice, although I couldn’t see any definitive effects as it was too small a sample to use for a long enough time. Medik8 is quite a hyped up brand though, and I was still eager to try this sample, it soaked into my skin nicely, and my face felt incredibly soft and supple afterwards.

Repurchase decision: I would like to, but I think it might be a little expensive for an everyday moisturiser.

SmartSkin Moisturing Facial Cleansing Wipes | $2.50 (25 wipes)
I bought these from Woolworths because they were on sale, two packets for $2.  I used a few on my face, but mostly I used these to clean down my makeup products before photo shoots! They were softer than the Simple facial wipes, although I wasn’t convinced the quality was there.

Repurchase decision: I still have another packet to use up, but I would probably buy these again, just to use for photo shoots.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque | $5.98 (227g)
I adore this mask, it has lasted me so long! This mask is meant for oily and acne prone skin and I love applying this regularly. I apply it to my upper back and face if I have an outbreak in that area and it does wonders. Sometimes I will do a complete mask over an entire area, while other times this mask is just used as a spot treatment for acne spots. I’m not joking when I say that this mask dries out and draws up impurities in the skin such as acne. If you apply this as a spot treatment for a few hours a day for two or three days your acne spot will start diminishing and then just disappear. I love it so much!

Repurchase decision: I will be buying this again soon!

Cosmetic Products:

Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner – Black | $14.95
I actually bought this eyeliner by accident, I meant to pick up a different one, but I decided to stick with it and use it up. I love using eyeliner pencils on my lower lash line for an everyday look, as I am pretty terrible with liquid eyeliner on my lid. This eyeliner lasted a really long time, actually there is still more left, but it’s so old that I figured it was time to say goodbye. It was a very creamy and smooth eyeliner and it applied really well, although I found it did tend to smudge as the day went on, especially if it is hot.

Repurchase decision: No, I wouldn’t buy this eyeliner again.

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation – Fiji | $66.00 (30mL)
Unfortunately I was given a sample of this product which was far too dark for my skin. I started to apply it anyway, thinking I could just test the formula, but as I was quickly turning into an oompa loompa I decided I couldn’t do it and I wiped it all off. So, basically, I haven’t tested this product at all!

Repurchase decision: I would love to try another sample in my skin tone.

Benefit The POREfessional | $53.00 (22mL)
This is actually the least favourite silicon based primer I have tried. I love Benefit, and they are usually spot on, however, as cute as this product is I just didn’t think that it performed as well as other brands. This primer is tinted and has a silicon like consistency to smooth over your skin, however after I used this primer and then applied my foundation I noticed that the primer had actually filled and highlighted my pores, instead of making them invisible. I also decided that this primer made my face oilier than usual, especially in my T-zone and on my nose.

Repurchase decision: No, I wouldn’t buy this product, especially for the cost.

Urban Decay Naked Skin – Shade 1.5 | $65.00 (30mL)
Mmm, what can I say. I thought I liked it. I definitely preferred this foundation over the NARS sample I used up last month. However it still didn’t do it for me, it wasn’t the perfect, medium/high coverage finish I was searching for. I’m not 100% sure why I didn’t love it, but basically it never looked natural and it tended to look quite flaky and it caked onto my skin in some areas.

Repurchase decision: No, this wasn’t for me.

Nude by Nature Natural Mineral Cover – Light Skin Tones | $39.95 (15g)
I have been wearing this loose powder for literally years now! I love it to bits. It feels so light on your skin, I basically forget I am wearing it all the time and it give a great all over coverage. Evening out your skin tone and mattifying and liquid foundation you may have applied. This product also lasts absolutely forever. I have been doing these empties posts since last March, this is the first tub I have emptied and I use this product on the daily!

Repurchase decision: Yes! Already onto my next tub (and I have a backup tub too!).

Fragrance Products:

Impulse Perfume in a Spray – Love Story | $4.99 (75mL)
My favourite scent of body mist at the moment is Love Story from Impulse, this scent includes berry, fruit and floral tones.

Repurchase decision: Yes, I will probably wear this scent again.

Tocca Eau de Parfum – Simone | $68 (50mL)
I was given a small 1.5mL sample of the Tocca perfume, Simone. This scent is meant to be tropical with notes of frangipani, sea salt, watermelon, ylang ylang and blonde woods, it was made with the sands of Australia’s Bondi Beach in mind. I however didn’t actually enjoy this scent. It was very strong, and I thought it was a little overpowering. I enjoy much more subtle, sweeter scents.

Repurchase decision: No, I wouldn’t buy this perfume for myself.

Body Products:

Bondi Sands Reusable Self Tanning Mitt | $9.99
I self-tan with the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam in Light/Medium. Over winter I didn’t bother too much about tanning, as I was so wrapped up in layers of clothes no one was able to see my skin, but once the warmer weather started (it’s already over in Perth at the moment!) I knew I had to tan to avoid blinding people with my white skin! Since I hadn’t used my fake tan in a while I decided to throw away my old self-tanning mitt and open up a new one for this season.

To be honest I buy this mitt because I love the Bondi Sands self-tanner so much, however I find after a couple of applications the mitt tends to disintegrate as you are tanning, leaving little black specks over your skin. I don’t know if it is because I am using it too long? To me “reusable” means more than 1 or 2 applications.

Repurchase decision: Probably not, I think I will buy a different brand for my next mitt.

Blackberry Bath Bomb | $6.50
This bath bomb from Lush smelt amazing, blackberry with bergamot and frankincense, and it turned all my bathwater a gorgeous deep purple colour. Although it was nice, it wasn’t amazing, there was nothing extraordinary about this bath bomb. Once the bath bomb finished dissolving there were no bubbles or anything especially pretty apart from the purple coloured bathwater.

Repurchase decision: No I have too many others I need to try and that I prefer over this one.

Fizzbanger Bath Bomb | $6.95
The Fizzbanger bath bomb was a little more exciting than the Blackberry, as it created bubbles, foam and swirls of yellow and green in my bath. It also had a little secret note in the centre which floated out once the bath bomb had completely dissolved. The Fizzbanger is described as being “a toffee apple for your bath”, although I really have no idea where they got this idea from, it didn’t feel, look or smell like toffee apple to me at all.

Repurchase decision: Probably not, again, there are just too many others I prefer over this.

Waxaway Ready to Use Wax Strips | $9.99 (20 strips)
I wanted to try a new brand of wax strip, so I bought this pack of Waxaway strips while they were on sale at Priceline. Umm, big mistake. They barely worked and left so much wax residue behind, also they only provide 1 aftercare wipe in the box, so if you use this packet in 2 goes like I did you will have a very hard time removing all the left over wax residue.

Repurchase decision: No, I’ll not be getting this brand again.

Alpha Keri Body Slimfit Bust Lift and Firm Cream | $49.99 (200mL)
I received this sample inside my August bellabox, it says that you will see results after a month of twice daily applications, however there was only 5 or 6 applications in the sample packet, so I honestly have no idea if this did anything at all.

Repurchase decision: I honestly don’t know. I didn’t not like it, but I didn’t see any results from the tiny sample packet either.

Alpha Keri Body Slimfit Heat-Activating Slimming and Firming Serum | $49.99 (200mL)
Again this sample was inside my August bellabox, and again it needed twice daily applications, therefore I couldn’t see any real results from this product. I was slightly apprehensive of using this product as I once used a self-heating face mask that absolutely destroyed me, however I didn’t notice the heat on the first application and after that I would say the heat was very mild, not uncomfortable at all.

Repurchase decision: I’ve got the same opinion on this as I had on the bust lift and firm cream.

Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel with Olay {Similar} | $7.99 (195g)
I have used up another can of the Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel with Olay, the same type as I used in my June empties post. I still really like the Gillette shaving gels, and I don’t mind which scent I buy, they are all really nice. I find this shaving gel really helps to re-hydrate my legs as I shave them and they aren’t left all dry and flaky.

Repurchase decision: Yes, I’m already onto another can of Gillette shaving gel.

Hair Products:

Batiste Dry Shampoo – Tropical | $15.99 (400mL)
I don’t know if you guys have noticed yet, but I practically go through one of these giant 400mL cans a month, so far I’ve had the Batiste Dry Shampoo appear in my April, May and July empties posts. It is a bit of a reoccurring theme since I have very oily hair and this product allows me to leave the house without shame. Seriously, the day after I wash my hair it looks like I haven’t showered for a week, yuk! Tropical is still my favourite scent, and I am yet to have any problems with this brand of dry shampoo, I’m going to keep on using it!

Repurchase decision: Yes, I’m already using my backup can!

What products have you been through this month?
Anything the same as me?
Do you love or hate any of the products I have emptied this month?

Thanks for stopping by.
