{Beauty} June ’16 Lip Monthly Review

So if you know me at all you know I love my lip products and my subscription boxes, well, what if I told you that I found out there is a subscription service that is completely dedicated to lip products?! Crazy, I know! The service is based in America and it is called Lip Monthly. I was surprised at how cheap the subscription was, and they always have great deals as well so make sure you take a look at their plans if your thinking about signing up. I used the 50% off the first package deal and my June box ended up only costing $6.48USD.

The package arrived in a small green makeup bag that had a pattern of red cherries on it, it contained a contents card, itemising each product and informing you of the retail value. The June bag had two dedicated lip products inside as well as two multi-use (lip/cheek/eye) products.

The first product I saw in my June Lip Monthly bag was a dedicated lip product, Jelly Pong Pong Lip Butter. Unfortunately this product has no shade name, but as you can see it is a very soft and subtle nude shade. It is packaged in a cute cardboard and metallic lipstick tube that has a fun and whimsical balloon pattern on it. According to the contents card I received this product retails for $18.95USD.

The texture was incredibly smooth, creamy and quite moisturising, it was a soft colour but the pigmentation was strong enough to cover my natural lip colour completely. And the lip butter definitely had a smooth satin type finish rather than a high gloss finish.

The second product out of the bag was this gorgeous multi-use product, Peony Cosmetics Highlighter in Pink Glow. Its primary function is a cheek/highlighter, but it can also be worn on yours lips, I first thought it was a lip crayon before reading the packet, or as a cream eyeshadow. This product says that it is cruelty-free, vegan, 91% natural, gluten-free, hypoallergenic and it contains no parabens or mineral oils, which is pretty impressive. This product retails for $22USD.

As a lip product I found it wasn’t as smooth to apply as I had hoped, probably because it it primarily a highlighter. On the lips it tended to crumble and separate, but with a bit of care it had a nice finish in the end. It was not strongly pigmented, it had a very subtle pink glow, but mainly it just added a shimmer to my natural lip colour. As a highlighter it applied well with a creamy texture and easy blend-ability.

The third item, and possibly my favourite was this multi-purpose tube of Be a Bombshell Lip/Cheek Stick. This product came in a really chunky stick, which was a downside when applying it to your lips as it was too thick to apply well. I used my finger to get the product off the stick and then applied it to my lip with my finger. I actually have not tried this on my cheek yet, but I feel the colour would be perfect for me. This product arrived in the shade Sweetness and is said to cost $16USD.

This product wasn’t as creamy as the Jelly Pong Pong Lip Butter, but it still applied smoothly and had a great satin finish. It didn’t transfer easily and it had the perfect amount of pigmentation to compliment my natural lip colour.

Lastly I received a Chrislie (Measurable Difference) Lip Crayon, this product had no shade name and is said to retail at $13USD. Before applying this product it looked a deep purple colour and I was worried it wouldn’t suit me at all, however I was pleasantly surprised when it applied as a deep cherry red. As a lip crayon this product was really easy to apply and easily transportable.

This Chrislie Lip Crayon had quite a high gloss finish, and was incredibly moisturising. A downside was that it tended to transfer, but being a lip crayon it was easy and convenient to reapply. The pigmentation was beautiful, it covered my natural lip colour completely, and I absolutely love the colour.

All in all I was really impressed with the Lip Monthly subscription service. I only purchased one bag, but may sign up and get more in the future, the price and quality of all items included in the bag was higher than my expectations and I was super happy to receive $69.95USD worth of products shipped to me in Australia for only $6.48USD.

Yes, I agree the last one is my favourite shade too, but I prefer the texture of the Be A Bombshell stick! I’m thrilled with all the products I received though!

I’ve seen lip monthly around a fair bit lately.
It is pretty great value, especially shipped from the US.
    Looks like a great subscription.

Thanks for stopping by Nerida, yes, I think it is starting to get a bit more notice now, but I think in Australia it is still relatively unheard of.
I think it is fantastic value, especially if you use one of their deals! It is great that they don’t charge for postage, even international postage!

I’m going to look up the pink glow highlighter, it looks really cute. I don’t have any crayon highlighters.

Yeah it was a really interesting highlighter, I loved the shine and the subtle pink glow it gave!
