{Beauty} February ’17 Empties

Unfortunately, I have been continuing my lazy skincare routine streak into February (and now March too!). Laziness mixed with stress from starting the semester at uni has not been kind to my skin, I’m now more committed than ever to get into a strict skincare routine this March!

Over February I used a total of 11 products. Not bad for a lazy month, but nowhere near my highest count of 26 last August!

Skincare Products:

Neutrogena Radiance Boosting Mulberry Foam Cleanser | Unknown
I bought this cleanser back in July 2016 to qualify for the Priceline Skincare Gift Bag. It got hidden in the bathroom cupboard for a few months and finally re-emerged recently. However, I think this product has been discontinued since I purchased it as I cannot find it anywhere on the Priceline or Neutrogena websites. I found this cleanser incredibly gentle on my skin, and it did not irritate my face at all. It also smelt divine.

Repurchase decision: I would if I could.

Pelactiv Facial Refiner Deep Cleansing Scrub | $52.00 (150mL)
I had a little single use, 3mL sample packet of this Pelactiv Scrub to use up this Feb. I thought it was fairly ordinary if I’m being honest, nothing really stood out to me when I used it, good or bad… The only question I was left with was what ingredient causes this product to be exfoliating? There was nothing with a natural exfoliating property in the ingredient list, which leads me to assume the use of micro beads, if this is the case then it’s a big thumbs down from me!

Repurchase decision: Probably not, and if it does contain micro beads then definitely not!

Manuka Doctor Rejuvinating Face Mask | $69.99 (50mL)
The biggest thing that I noticed whilst wearing this mask was the smell, I thought it was putrid! I really couldn’t get past it to be honest, and I didn’t think the mask did much for my skin either…

Repurchase decision: No.

Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub | $9.95 (25g)
Unfortunately this is another Lush product that has gone out of date. I used it a heap and I never seemed to be any closer to emptying the container… it’s like they unlocked the secrets of Mary Poppins bag! This was the first Lush lip scrub I ever used, and I bought it nearly a year ago now. I love the scent of the popcorn scrub; however, I find the sweet and salty flavour to be a little confusing, and too much to handle after a while. It is a great product, I just prefer other flavours!

Repurchase decision: I already have a new Lush lip scrub; however, I wouldn’t buy the popcorn flavour again.

Body Products:

Select Cotton Tips | $1.00 (200 tips)
These were the cheapest cotton tips I could find at Woolies whilst doing the grocery shopping, and the quality is reflected in the price, they are cheap, but still functional. The tips aren’t particularly soft as there isn’t much cotton on them, however I found this really good for correcting eye makeup. Just dab them in a little makeup remover and quickly fix your eyeliner, it’s all good!

Repurchase decision: Yes, I’ll probably get these again, but I’m working my way through a different brand at the moment.

Schick Hydro Silk Blades | $19.29 (4 pack)
I love my Schick Hydro Silk Razor, although I was a bit appalled and disgusted when I realised I hadn’t changed the shaver head since December, so I knew I had to change it out at the end of Feb! Ah, back to smooth shaving glory!

Repurchase decision: Yep.

The Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter | $19.95 (3 item trinket tin)
I was gifted this little tub of body butter over Christmas! It’s not generally a scent I would choose for myself, but since smelling it I knew I absolutely loved it! It is so fresh and vibrant, the perfect scent for summer! I have tried The Body Shop body butters before and I have to say that they are some of my favourites. They are so moisturising, smooth, and they absorb into the skin so well!

Repurchase decision: I really want to buy another tub of The Body Shop body butter now!

The Body Shop Satsuma Shower Gel | $19.95 (3 item trinket tin)
This shower gel came in the same trinket tin as the body butter above, and again, the Satsuma scent was just fresh and invigorating! Whilst I’m not a huge fan of shower gels in general (they all just seem a bit ‘meh’ to me) I did really enjoy this product.

Repurchase decision: Probably not, just because I’m not really big on shower gels.

Lush Lover Lamp Bath Bomb | $7.95
This was a nice bath bomb! Probably one of my favourites, it’s got to be in my top five! It is a limited edition bath bomb from the Lush Valentines Collection. It was divinely scented with vanilla, cocoa butter and orange essence for a deliciously seductive and relaxing bath time. It also contained three large red hearts which floated amongst dozens of tiny hearts scattered throughout your bath water! Definitely a keeper!

Repurchase decision: It is limited edition, but if I saw it again I would buy it!

Hair Care Products:

Batiste Dry Shampoo – Ella Henderson | $9.99 (200mL)
I stated last month how I found these on sale and bought a bunch of cans, they just smelt too good for me to let them fade away so quickly. Now that they are discontinued I’m appreciating the scent more than ever!

Repurchase decision: They have been discontinued.

Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender* | $32.95 (153mL)
This dry shampoo was kindly gifted to me in my goodie bag from the Bloggers United Perth Event, and it has taken me since October to get it out of the goodie bag and test it! At first, I had mixed emotions regarding this product, but in the end I decided that the pros far outweighed the cons. The biggest con was that it didn’t seem to last very long, and I had to use a lot of product before I could get the oily shine from my hair. However, the pros were that it was a super fine mist, and once applied the product looked completely natural, it didn’t give you any patches of white hair (like Batiste sometimes does), and it provided a nice amount of volume and texture to my hair as well.

Repurchase decision: Yes, I would buy another can of this, however since it is a lot more expensive than Batiste (and other brands) I would probably reserve it for more special occasions.

How many products did you use up this month?
Did you finish off any products you are absolutely in love with?
Have you tried the Redken Pillow Proof spray?

Thanks for stopping by.

Very well written Kez.. I am with you on lush products never getting emptied before the expire date..

    • March 23, 2017 / 11:29 am

Thanks Maddy! It’s such a shame that so much product is wasted, but at the same time it feels as though it will never be emptied, there is always so much product! Xx

Bummer that your fav dry shampoo is finished. I’d be happy to pay that price too! I wouldn’t try a dry for the Redkon one. I’ve only ever tried 1 dry shampoo, can’t remember the brands but I was not impressed. I’d love to find one that works…

I’ve often resorted to baby powder, they take the oil but not for long. I get so sick of washing my hair every day. Please help me with any other recommendations?

Yeah, but I’m not too upset, there are always so many gorgeous scented dry shampoos from Batiste, I don’t think they have released a scent that I didn’t like yet! I have such oily hair I basically live in a little cloud of dry shampoo, I don’t know what I would do without it! Batiste is my favourite brand (but I don’t like the formula designed for dark hair), so let me know how you find it! Xx

I tried the Batisie, it was good, my hair looked way less lily all day!

Thats great Meg! I’m glad your enjoying it. It can take a few uses before you master applying it to your hair, everyone is slightly different, how far away you hold it, how much you use, where you apply it… but I’m sure you will get the hang of it in no time 🙂
